Carlton & Mackenzie’s Backyard Wedding
Carlton & Mackenzie got married in Mackenzie’s parents’ backyard just over a year ago, and it was such a special day to be part of. As a Winnipeg backyard wedding photographer, celebrations like this are always a dream to capture. They’re intimate, personal, and full of meaning.
I’ve had the chance to work with Carlton as a second photographer at weddings he’s shot, so being asked to photograph his own wedding felt like a huge honour!
Their day was the perfect mix of intimate moments and a big, joyful celebration.
They transformed the backyard with flowers scattered throughout the lawn and hanging from the trees. One of my favourite details was a chandelier swaying gently in the wind between a couple of trees leading up to the backyard!
The ceremony and lunch reception were kept small, shared with close family and friends. It was incredibly sweet and intentional. As the day went on, more guests arrived and the celebration grew. Carlton’s coffee cart, Potters Coffee Cart, kept everyone fuelled, and dinner was catered by ZA Pizza, where guests could customize their own pizzas. Delicious!
The evening unfolded with first dances, live music, heartfelt speeches, lawn games, and so much good food. It was all wrapped up with a party and fireworks!
From a photography perspective, this day was a dream. I shot a mix of digital, 35mm film, and medium format film. Some of those medium format images are still favourites of mine!
As a Winnipeg backyard wedding photographer, these days are just a joy to capture. So many candids for the taking!
